About

I am an American who is hanging out in Sydney, Australia, for the time being. Why? Because my girlfriend is Australian and she happens to live here, too. And I want to be with her.

I started this blog in 2002 before moving to NYC for grad school. That’s about the time I started finding out all kinds of stuff about myself, such as my frustration with identity politics, and I had to write about it every once in a while. I mean, really, is being a mixed-race (are you Puerto Rican, Dominican, African American, Maori, Samoan, Fijian, ad infinitum), gender-bending lesbian so out of the ordinary? I also write about media, politics, television, myself, and whatever might be pissing me off. And I write about writing.

Besides writing the blog, I write short stories either when contests call for them or when I have to get them out of my system. I also write novels when I want to expand short stories, as well as every November during National Novel Writing Month. (Okay as of today I’ve done NaNoWriMo once and won.) I write about the things I think of when I’m asleep. The stuff that pops into my head when someone pisses me off. (Those people always get it in the end.) And I’m writing a memoir. Maybe one day it will appear on a bookshelf near you.

Till then, I dig literature, Abraham Lincoln, cricket, showtunes, my astrological sign (Leo), Apple products, white chocolate, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, and Strawberry Squeeze juices from Boost here in Australia. And writing. Now go read some more of my blog!
